Peter L. Wargo

The Man. The Myth. The Legends.

Millions have asked the question:

Who in hell is Pete Wargo, and why should I care?

Good question. "A bald, bearded, Buddhist systems geek" comes to mind. Probably some other things as well, but it's a good start.

One thing I certainly am is a happy individual. Even after 20+ years in the IT game. I'm lucky enough to be married to my best friend (Chandra), and enjoy the company of what may be the most mellow and wonderful basenji in the world. (That would be Jasmine, see the picture above.)

Someday (and I've been saying this for many years), I'll really do something interesting with this page. For example, I really need to set up a page with information about the eye disease that I'm learning to cope with: A rare form of Retinitis Pigmentosa called "Pericentral Retinitis Pigmentosa." (Essentially, this form leaves some of the peripheral vision intact, but takes out the area in a "doughnut" around the central vision.) In my case, the central vision still works, but is decreased to a 5-degree radius that is darker and distorted. Even though I am now legally blind, I can still manage to read a computer screen and work, but I can't see a movie screen or have comfortable face-to-face conversations.

If you want some idea of what it's like (I really can't describe the areas of "null vision" better than to say it's like the static you see on a TV or when you rub your eyes hard:
As a normal person sees it.
How I see it. (Assuming I don't move my eyes, of course.)

Thankfully, I have the support and love of my best friend and spouse, Chandra, as well as a wonderful array of friends and family who help me keep my balance and remind me that life is great with or without sight.
